It's close to corn dog time!

Or in other words Stampede time in Calgary!!  Really isn't that what stampede is all about, well corn dogs, mini doughnuts and pancakes.  Lots of pancakes!!

In less than two weeks many tourists will descend upon our city and take in the Calgary Stampede (and many more locals will be high tailing it out of here!)

This year we have plans to take in the Chuckwagons and the grandstand show and I'm excited for the kids to have a fun night out.  They are excited about the rides - I think they miss Disney :)

This stamp set is perfect for Stampede party cards!  Goodness knows there will be a lot of that going around in the next few weeks.

Stamps - Bootiful Occasions, Daring Adventure

Paper - Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Very Vanilla, Fan Fair Designer Series Paper
Ink - Early Espresso, Crumb Cake
Accessories - Burlap, Hemp, Square Lattice folder, Scalloped Oval punch, Large Oval punch

 Have a great day!

Bootiful Occasions!

When I first received the catalogue this was one set that had me jumping out of my seat!  The rubber boot is my absolute fave but each boot is fun, unique and full of possibilities.

With the recent weather we've been having I thought I'd start out with this card I created.  While shopping one day I saw this umbrella with the colour combo of Basic Black and a similar version of Summer Starfruit.  It MUST be the IN Colour of the year!

Stamps - Bootiful Occasions
Paper - Basic Black, Summer Starfruit, Basic Gray
Inks - Black Staz on
Accessories - Framed Tulips embossing folder, Crystal Effects, Boho Blossom, Bigz Simple Alphabet, Simply Scored

One extra card I'd like to share with you is one of our school thank yous.  Can you guess who this one is for??

I already sent off the one for the teacher before I snapped a picture - RATS!  But take my word for it, it was REALLY cute.

Proud mom moment!

I just have to share what a fun and busy weekend we had here at the Burns household.

This was playoff weekend for ball hockey and 5 games over Fri, Sat and Sun and a piano recital to boot!  The ball hockey regular season was not very kind to the kids as they finished with a record of 1-11.  The worst part was the team won the 1st game and we were in Florida for that game, so my boys had not won a game all year.

Enter the playoffs - we were ranked 8th, out of 8 and we had to play the first placed team (who had 11 wins and one tie) on Friday night.  They team played amazing and WON!  The parents were going crazy and the kids were soo excited.

Fast forward to Sat and they had to play the 4th and 5th placed teams.  Guess what??  They won both of those games as well  - we were heading on to the semi finals.  Andrew scored a goal in the first game too!!!

Sunday was less kind as they lost the semi-final game 2-3 so we were relagated to the bronze medal game where they faced the same 1st placed team we beat on Fri evening.  Sad to say we ended up losing but the kids fought sooo hard and I'm super proud of they way they rebounded from a less than stellar regular season and played fantastically as a TEAM!  The Grizzlies ended up coming fourth and thus no medal for the kids.  Why don't they give medals for 4th???? Such a bummer :(

In the end we are SO proud of how much energy the kids brought to each practice and game!  Andrew was a force in the corners with multiple chances on the breakaway and Nathan was a great shut down center, not bad for starting the year on defense.  We are happy about the break for summer but looking forward to next season!

Oops, maybe I celebrated a bit too soon.  We do have hockey again next weekend for Nathan's Fury team.  Another exciting weekend to look forward too!

Thanks for checking in and I'll have a creative post tomorrow!

K

Happy Friday!

Can you believe it's the end of the week already!!  Yay!

Yesterday was crazy for me as I had tons of errands, baked a double batch of cookies and Rice Krispie squares for a bake sale and cut out a bunch of things for Nathan's teacher.  It was fun to have a non stamping day but boy am I tired.

Today I'm looking forward to a morning of stamping (fingers crossed).

On to share my favourite of my Pleasant Poppies card.

The colours used on this card are Tangerine Tango, Daffodil Delight and Baja Breeze.

I hope you have a great weekend! Ours will be filled with hockey playoffs and a piano recital.

Take Two - Pleasant Poppies

As promised a more colourful card with Pleasant Poppies.

The colours I used on this card are Calypso Coral, So Saffron and Pool Party.  It's difficult to see in the photo but I used Crystal Effects on each of the cut out poppies.  Yes the poppies are cut out, no there isn't a punch for that :)

More poppies tomorrow.  Come and see me then . . .

Pleasant Poppies - my new fave stamp set

I just love this new single background stamp set in the catalogue - Pleasant Poppies.  It's just a gorgeous stamp set that can be used in a variety of ways.  Here is one such way that I did for our technique page at club last week.

This technique is called spotlighting.  Here are the instructions.

Stamp image onto cardstock.  Punch out a portion of the image with a 1 1/4” circle punch.  Colour the punched piece.  Mount onto a larger 1 3/8” circle of card stock.  Attach to the card lining up the images.

Tomorrow I will share with you a more colourful card with this stamp.

Cheers,
K

More Swap cards - the last lot :)

Here are the last few swap cards from my downline.

Bev created this simple but WOW card showing all the patterns in the Floral District paper.

Here is a simple but sweet card from Allison.  I love the little button!

When I received Rachel's card I noticed the neutral background made the butterflies POP . . .

But then I opened up the inside and WOWZERS!  Rachel's card was inspired by Lisa Althouse.
** For those of you that have signed up for Ribbon Shares - I'm in the process of cutting and wrapping the ribbons and will contact you soon when they are ready.  Some ribbon types I'm still waiting for a few more sign ups before I order the full rolls.

Thanks for stopping by.

Swap cards

Hope you had a fantastic weekend with your family!  We finally had a weekend together with no Stampin UP classes!  I'm winding down work with summer on the way or at least we hope it is.  We ended up at Calaway Park, CrossIron Mills, Southland and of course some homework.  I can't wait until all our summer days are like that!

On to some stamping!!  On Friday I received quite a few of the demo swap cards I joined with my downline. I want to share some of their fantastic creativity.

Look at the creativity on this card by Kim M.  I love love love it!

The colours and layers on Avery's card are awesome!  I love the flowers in the center of the scallops.

I love the frame element on Cathy's card.  That cutting is just WOW!

I never would have thought to put these colours together but on Erin's card they work fantastically!
Thank you for sharing your card creativity the past several months!  More swap creations tomorrow.

Cheers,
K

Scrapbooking tonight!

Tonight, tonight, tonight is the night!!

I'm super excited to scrapbook with my club tonight!!

I have had this idea for a page ever since I saw the new Bootiful Occasions set in the new catalogue.  The button tree idea came from a page layout  I saw in a Scrapbooks, Etc magazine and the umbrella idea came while I was sleeping :)  Allison, a fellow demo in my downline also made a great card with this set too.

The rain drops and puddle were made with Crystal Effects - to colour the puddle I just added the tiniest bit of Bashful Blue re-inker.  I free hand cut the clouds, tree and branches.  Super easy!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!  Ours will be filled with a trip to Calaway Park and of course some hockey.

Last Happy Hour post, I promise

Here are two more cards I made with this set.  I promise it will be the last of Happy Hour for at least a little bit.

I love this new embossing folder - Chevron.  The deep impression and versatile pattern is AWESOME!

And the last card I'm sharing with you is one that I created for a demo swap.

It's a CASE of my "manly" card I shared a few days ago, but with a different colour combo.  This is one I could use again and again - Island Indigo, Raspberry Ripple and Summer Starfruit.  More girly :)

Any hour is Happy Hour!

Hi there

I hope you had a great weekend even though the weather left A LOT to be desired.  I wrapped up Kids Camp this weekend and we had a fun time baking cookies, creating Father's Day crafts and some framed art.  My week to come brings on the final meeting with two of my clubs.  It will be a fun week of playing with new products  - JOY!  I will begin clubs again starting in Sept so please contact me if you or any of your friends are interested in joining a scrapbooking or cardmaking group.

Now a bit of what I have been up to . . .

I received a ton of new and mostly free rubber last week (It was free because I'm a DEMO, ask me how you can join and get free rubber too) so I spent a bit of time creating with one of my new sets - Happy Hour!

I joined a swap at Convention that focuses on "guy" cards so this was my first attempt with the new Happy Hour stamp set.

Now,  if you know me at all you know I don't drink (I turn bright red at one sip of the stuff) so it was kinda weird that this was one set that was on my HAVE TO HAVE list.

What do you think???  Is this "guy" enough??  Would you give this to a man in your life??

Thanks for stopping by.

Over a year ago I offered an Owl class and it was SUPER popular!  Well, now I have Everything Owls and More! In this class, you will create 10 different cards all using the Owl Builder punch.  This punch is very fun and more versatile than you realize.  Don't wait and register for this class ASAP!

Date - Fri, Aug 24th - 6-9 or Sat, Aug 25th - 1-4
Cost - $35 ** you must have the Owl punch

Homework - Instructions/scrap bag for Owl prep work will be available August 1st.

Hope you can join me for an evening or afternoon of card making fun!  Just a warning - I've heard from many that once they took the first Owl class they couldn't give the cards away. Just sayin'.

On another note I received a TON of stamp sets from the new catalogue this week.  I was soo excited that I considered (for a brief moment) rolling around on the ground with them, then my smarts kicked in.   Instead of doing that I took them to the kids hockey practice and started mounting them.  I hope to have a few seconds/hours this weekend to play with my new rubber so fingers crossed I'll have some new ideas to share next week AND a newsletter sent to your inboxes.

Have a great weekend!

1/2 c brown sugar
Salted Premium Plus crackers
1 bag butterscotch chips
1 bag milk chocolate chips

Pre heat oven to 350 degrees.  Combine the 2 bags of chips together and set aside.  Fill parchment lines baking sheet with crackers, salted side up.  Melt butter and sugar together, bring to boil and boil for one minute.  Spread butter mixture evenly over crackers and let stand for 5 min.  Bake for 8-10 min.  Watch for burning.

Immediately upon removal from the oven, spread chips evenly over crackers.  Let stand until the chips are shiny and melted.  Use a spatula and smooth chips out.  Place in the fridge until the chocolate has hardened and cut into squares or break into pieces.  Refrigerate for 1 hour and place in a container.  Keep refrigerated.

Happy Monday! June WOW projects!

** One spot has come available for the WOW.  Contact me ASAP to join in the fun!!

Hello everyone

I hope you had a fantastic weekend!  The weather was great and I finally had 2 seconds to plant some petunias that had been sitting on my step for ages.  Fingers crossed they rejuvenate as they were looking rather sad when I first put them in the ground.

Thanks to all who attended my New Catty Kick off!  It was a fun afternoon and I everyone was able to tryout the new firm foam ink pads Stampin Up has to offer.  The consensus was GOOD!  They are easy to ink and the images stamped are crisp and clear.

Here is the card and Petite purse I created for the make n' take.

Colours used - Crumb Cake, Gumball Green, Raspberry Ripple in the card and Primrose Petals for the purse
I had many new class samples to share and sign ups for ribbon shares and more.  Over the next week I'll share the class samples with you  :)  Contact me ASAP to sign up as some classes fill up quickly.

Here are the samples for my June WOW class but it filled super quick!  The class is FULL!  Contact me to join the waitlist for this class.  Who knows if I get enough interest I may find another day to hold this class.

Three unique gift card holders - just $10 or place an order of $35 and the class is free!

Thanks for checking in today!  Have a good one!

Cheers,
K

It's here, it's here, it's FINALLY HERE!!!!!

Yippee!!!  I can finally show you the fantastic new 2012-2013 catalogue.

TA DA!!!

Click here to view (at noon today)
Isn't it GORGEOUS!!!  The new in colours are bright, fun and work well with each other and all the other great colours Stampin UP has to offer.  At first sight I fell in love with Gumball Green but now I'm in love with them all.  Ok, honestly one might be a bit of a challenge but I'm up for it.

Usually on June 1st, I post the next WOW class projects but because tomorrow is my new catty kick off I'm going to do the reveal the projects at the event and wait to post them to my blog on Monday.  You can begin signing up on June 1st.

Of course I'll give you a teaser of what is to come!

Remember the WOW class is the third Wednesday of the month - June 20th 6-8pm.  This will be the last WOW until September, but not to worry I do have a few other classes planned for the summer.

Be sure to contact me if you would like a new catalogue or sign up for the WOW class (class maximum is 9)!

K
