Sights from Halloween 2012

Well, despite the FREEZING temperatures in Calgary the kids (and Pete) braved the cold for free candy.  Was there ever any doubt??

Here are a few snapshots of the fun.

The kids and the HAUL!  I guess they like those Coffee Crisps!

The SORT!
So, I'm curious . . . do your kids do the big sort after they collect all the candy??  We started this when they were very little sorting all the dif kinds of chocolate bars, candies, chips, etc.  I thought all kids did this but then I talked to one mom and they didn't.  Is it the teacher in me that started all this??

Everyone loved our pumpkins!  Tons of compliments on our silly creatures.

Cheers,
K

Happy Halloween!!!

It's finally here!  I think Nathan is going to be jumping out of his skin at school today.

Here is a pic of one of our cool Star Wars pumpkins.

You don't know the power of the dark side!
We have a Yoda one too but I went to take a pic of that one and it was rotting already!

Here is Nathan's carved pumpkin, his first one by himself and the good news . . . he has all 10 fingers still!

Don't forget to check back tomorrow to register for the November WOW class.  Here is a sneak peek.

I hope you have a great night out with your kids.

I'm feeling the Stamp a Stack pain!

Hi everyone

I spent my Monday sympathizing?? or identifying with the Stamp a Stack guests on the weekend.  When I was prepping I made a few extra kits for me to create my own Christmas cards.  Isn't that great foresight of me :)

I have 3 of the 5 done and tomorrow I'm going to tackle the labour intensive one. If you were at the stack, you know which one I mean!!!

It's MUCH harder to make multiples of these cards - I only make one of each when I'm planning them!

Now if I can only get my Christmas letter written early and mail these by December 1st.  Bets on if I can make that happen???

Have a great day!

Stamp a Stack weekend!!!

I have my Stamp a Stack this weekend so imagine 30+ ladies coming to my house over two days to stamp - yikes!  I prepped over 700 cards a couple of weeks ago so now I get to sit back and relax - just kidding.  My work is done and now it's up the ladies to create!!

I'm not sure if I shared these before but this is what we are creating this weekend. 5 styles and 4 of each style!!  Pete calls it boot camp but really it's fun.  Tiring but fun!

 Have a great weekend!

New Single Image stamps

At the beginning of the month Stampin UP released single image stamps.

They have taken off with demonstrators and customers alike so SU introduced some new images taken from current stamp sets as well as never seen before images.  I LOVE the New Year's stamp as well as that snowflake.  And Blooming with Kindness has been on and off my wish list since the catalogue came out.  There is something about that flower . . . .

My little black cat

Sorry my posts are all erratic.  That's what my days have been like - a little bit here and a little bit there.  I've been busy being MOM and not Stampin UP demo for the past three days you know the drill - homework, cooking, laundry, the usual, not so exciting stuff.

Here is a cat of a different colour that I forgot to post the other day.  Isn't she cute??  I think this is very Halloweeny.

I hope to have something creative and new to post for Friday so wish me luck.  I have a workshop to prep for!!!

And how was your commute yesterday???

Well, that was a load of fun wasn't it??  Calgary received a whack of snow between Monday night and Tuesday afternoon and it was anything but fun especially if you had to drive anywhere.  Fingers crossed today is a better commute day for everyone.

After I drove Andrew to school,(his bus never showed up after waiting 30 min) I spent the day warm and snug and busy mass producing things for the craft fair.  Over the next few weeks I'll show you what I've been up to.

I had a few of these frames leftover from my decorative frame class and thought I'd make a fun countdown calendar for the craft fair.

It is honestly 62 days until the Big Day! And much less until I have to get all these things made!!!

Mark this dates on your calendar - Sat, Nov 17 and Sun, Nov 18th from 11-4 at the Lake Bonavista Community Center.  The address is 1401 Acadia Dr SE.

Hope to see you there!

K

The Kids Camp secret!

I'm going to let you in on a little secret.  I have learned the "key" to keeping kids happy during Kids Camp.  Make crafts with food! They had so much fun creating the marshmallow witches I think I will be planning many more "food" crafts in the future.  The best part was when we "stamped" green food colouring with the end of the chopstick for the eyes and mouth.

While small groups were creating the witches the rest of them were working on the treat bags or treat purse craft.

I generally plan too much for our class time and these were supposed to be for the Sept camp.  Thankfully we had time this month to make these super cute cards.

Aren't they cute??

The kids did a fantastic job following my punch art recipe cards.  It's only Oct and they know the drill.  I can't wait until Nov until we can craft again.

Have a great snowy day if you are in Calgary and drive safely!

Cheers,
K

I survived the weekend!!!

Greetings and Happy Monday morning!

I am happy to reports I survived my weekend of an all day long crop on Sat and Kids Camp on Sun.  And I had such a great time!!

I met a ton of fantastic ladies at the Okotoks Scrapbook convention and I could NOT believe the amount of prizes that were being doled out all day.  It was incredible.  I'll be sure to post next year's Convention date (as soon as I know it) and send out tons of reminders for you to join in the fun.  I was amazed at the presentation about Rowan House and the building of new facility this past year.  It is such a worthwhile cause and I will definitely be thinking of new ways in the future to give to this organization.

The second part of my weekend was Inky Thumbs and Club Create.  We had a blast creating Halloween crafts and some yummy super sweet candy treats.  Can you believe I took a picture of the messy craft table but not the finished products??  Well, they are now gone so I'll have to post the recipe photo instead.  Suffice to say ours were less than "perfect" looking witches but I'm sure they tasted just as yummy.

Click on the photo to view the recipe.
Here are a few pics of our other crafts yesterday.

Didn't they do a fantastic job!

Thanks for stopping by.

Halloween Scrapbooking

I think my favourite holiday to scrapbook is Halloween.  Not sure why as I don't particularly love the colour orange but I just do :)

This year's paper choice Howlstooth and Scaringbone didn't scream out to me at first but once I began playing with it I realized how versatile this can be for Halloween or any masculine card or page.

I can't wait to add the kids Halloween pics from this year.  We bought the costumes almost 2 weeks ago - Whew!  That's a source of stress for me each year - deciding between homemade and bought, finding ones that fit and on and on.

I hope you have a great weekend!  I'm super busy with my Scrapbooker's club Friday, the Okotoks Scrapbook Convention ALL day on Saturday and Kids Camp ALL day on Sunday.  Why do I do this to myself????

I hope you have a fantastic weekend and stay warm.  Brrr it's going to get chilly this weekend!

Cheers,
K

Cookie sandwiches!

Morning,

This past week has been ridiculous busy as I get ready for the Okotoks Scrapbook Convention.  You know when you feel like you are behind on something but then when you take a step back you realize you are doing okay.  Well, this is NOT the case - I'm really FAR behind!

So instead of getting down to work and prepping for this event what did I do this week - I made cookies.  Crazy, I know.

Pete has been super busy at work and so the kids and I had a date night.  Just the three of us.  We had a good dinner and afterwards a very deelish dessert.  The homemade chocolate chip cookies and inbetween some Nuttin Butter ice cream.  They didn't like it at all!

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by.

K

Snowman Poop

As promised here is the card recipe to make Snowman poop packets :)  I think I just like saying that.

Face - Whisper White - 4x5 piece cut with the Top Note die
Hat - Basic Black - 3/4 x 4 strip and round all 4 corners, 2 x 3 round the top corners
Hat decorations - Silver glimmer paper, Raspberry Ripple paper, Basic Rhinestone
Eyes - 1/2 circle punch, White gel pen accents
Nose - Pumpkin Pie cut free hand
Cheeks - Sponge dauber with Pink Pirouette ink

I found this idea on this website just by googling "snowman poop".  Don't ya just love the internet!

Craft fair preparation time!!!

It's that time of year again when I go into mass production mode!   I am planning to make reindeer poop, grinch pills, coffee cards, chocolate bar sleeves and more.  Can you guess what these will be for??

These are the baggie toppers for my snowman poop!   I love me some poop!  Really it will be mini marshmallows!

I'll take a closer photo tomorrow and share the recipe too. I have a list a mile long and it keeps growing.  Why is that???

Thanks for checking in!

Scallop Envelope gift card holder tutorial

This was one of the projects we did for Cardmaker's Club.  It involved sewing (insert gasp here) but everyone fared well with minimal complaining :).

The scallop envelope die is slightly too narrow to fit a gift card if die cut as is.  Here is a photo tutorial on how to make the gift card holder.

Use a 6x6 piece of Designer Series Paper and the Scallop envelope die  The Candlelight Christmas paper is shown here.

2. Fold the paper loosely in half.  Don't press to hard on the fold line.  Line up with the die, with the fold line towards the center.

Leave 3 scallops still showing on the edge and die cut.

3. For the belly band - with a 1 x 5 piece of Early Espresso and a slightly shorter piece of Victoria crochet trim adhere these two pieces together with sticky strip.  I used a shorter piece of trim to avoid too much bulk when you are attaching the belly band.

4. Now for the sewing part, using the new Cherry Cobbler Tulle cut a piece as long as 6 scallops.

5.  Fold in half length wise with one side slightly longer than the other.

6. Use a running stitch along the folded edge.

7. Gather the ends together and attach a Designer Bronze button to the center.

8. Using a heat tool, heat the edges of the tulle until they curl and are slightly melted.  If you see in the two photos the flower shrinks quite a bit once heated.  Be careful when picking up the flower as the button gets HOT!!!!

9. Attach the flower to the belly band where the edges of the card stock meet.
10.  The finished product.  I added a gift tag stamped with Early Espresso and the stamp is from the set Tags til Christmas.

I hope you can find the time to create one of these cute holders for the holidays.
Have a great weekend!

K
