May WOW Sneak Peek

I'm being a TOTAL tease but this one is worth it.  I have been scouring the web for samples for this class so while I do come up with some original ideas these ones were with the help of great fellow demos AND other great crafters.

 Yippee Skippee!

Check back tomorrow to register!!

And how was your weekend???

Hello and Happy Monday!

Did you get out and enjoy the sunshine?   And WET FLURRIES for today??  SERIOUSLY!!!

That brings me to my weekend of fun!  I had my Kids scrapbooking group and a fun Paper Palooza event too.  We had crepes, cookies and created some great projects.  If you would like to join in the fun and get great fun products in the mail sign up here.  You must sign up before the 10th of May to receive the welcome kit in May and the latest June kit.

Here is my April Kit when I opened up. I {heart} surprises.

You are welcome, Paper Pumpkin!

Check out this month's kit!

I made 4 different cards with this set all the same but slightly different.

This one is like the sample.
This one is my fave.  You can add crazy, funny, or HOT on the inside of this card.  Totally changes the meaning up doesn't it.

Just a change in stamp positioning and the twine.

And another one similar to the sample card.

Check back in for a sneak peek on May's WOW Class.  This one I am OVER THE TOP excited about!

Cheers,
K

Bombs Away and Need for Speed

Last Bomb card for this week!

Congratulations!  The music you grew up on is now considered Classic Rock.
Doesn't this sentiment make you feel old?  I know it makes me feel old but it's oh so true!  When you see those compilation CD's and they are titled - music from the 90's and 80's (gasp)  Yep that means you!

I remember listening to cassette tapes in my brother's car when he had to drive me to my dance lessons. Oh the good ol' days.

Have a great weekend!

** Need for Speed is on the Retiring list - Just sayin'. :)  I think I should have labelled these cards - Bombs Away PLUS a Retiring set!

Bombs Away and Topsy Turvy Celebration

Here is another card with my newest set PLUS Topsy Turvy.  I really like this cake stamp set as Nathan and I like to watch those cake decorating shows.  Pretty much anything on the Food Network he likes to watch.  This set reminds me of some of the cool cakes they make that look like they are about to fall over but don't.

An occasion like this calls for a mediocre sheet cake from the grocery store.

Topsy Turvy Celebration w - 126470 ( 21.95), c - 125822 (16.95)

Did you notice all these are cards the same template - one card base plus one 2 3/4 x 2 3/4 piece of Whisper White cardstock?  On this one I added a bit of Pacific Point to mat the white but essentially still the same card map.

Thanks for stopping by.

** This one is on the retiring list :(

K

Bombs Away Birthday

What a day yesterday!  I pulled myself out of my office (or cave) and away from my to do list and went for a quick walk.  It was gorgeous but am I the only one that hears robins and thinks - uh oh!  See here if you don't know what I'm talking about.

I did a quick inspection of the backyard and I think we are in the clear.

I'm in a bit of a limbo today as I await the "pre-order" list for demonstrators.   I am a lucky one because I can see the new incolours and a sampling of new stamps today - online only.  I will hopefully have them in my hot little hands by Friday or Monday and then will start posting some of the new cards I create.  If you want to see the new catalogue when it comes out contact me ASAP and I'll save you a copy!

On to my card today, more Bombs Away Birthday!  Lovin' this set.

More fun Washi tape!  Do you recognize the background colour?  It's the new, but old Bermuda Bay!

This saying is of particular significance in our house as this is what we seek out for when we go out for dinner for Pete's and my birthday.  Have you ever been to Montana's??  That is just ridiculous, fun for some but not for us :)

Hmmmm, his birhday is in May.  I might be saving this one til then.

** Just noticed the Distressed Dots background is on the retiring list!

K

New rubbah - Bombs Away Birthday

I just love getting new stamps but if you have recently seen my stamp shelves RUBBAH is the LAST thing I need.  Seriously!  The LAST thing I need.  I'm giddy with excitement to see what will be on this year's retiring list so I can make some room on these overflowing shelves.

My newest set isn't actually rubbah but saying NEW Photopolymer just doesn't have the same type of ring to it - don't ya think??

Ok, enough babbling.  Whether rubber or photopolymer this set is a MUST have!  I love the sassy sayings so here is the first of 4 cards I made today.

This one was quick and easy.  Well, in actual fact all of the cards were easy as I used a similar scrap map for each of them - card base + one Whisper White 2 3/4 x 2 3/4 square piece of card stock.

I love this saying - You don't look a day over however many years you are willing to admit.   My photo is a bit blurry  - sorry.

I {heart} this new Washi tape.  I didn't use any adhesive on the Whisper White piece.  I just used the washi tape like masking tape; tore it off and stuck it down.

Thanks for checking in.

K

I can't wait until I can get my hands on all the new colours!

Way to go guys!

Top 11th in the Geography Challenge!

Yesterday was Andrew's Geography Challenge and he placed with a top 11 score!  Yahoo!

We are super proud of his accomplishments!

AND not only that but today Nathan and his partner, Jade are spending the day at the Calgary Youth Science Fair.   They were tops in their school science fair back in Feb so are moving onto the CYSF this weekend.

Good luck to them!

I just got some new rubbah so I'll play it today and and post a card this weekend.  I had a class tonight (thanks for the love and letting me know some people do read my ramblings) and then finished the night by watching the Canucks play horribly! UGH!

Here is a scrapbook page of my Geography crazed kid!  I made this one many years ago - Not your Avg 5 year old  A passion for atlases

When he was little (I mean like 5) he LOVED to read atlases.  Seriously I had to read them for bedtime books.  Choosing between atlases, dictionaries and one time I had to read a thesaurus for a bedtime book!!!

Andrew discovered this in one of his library books - North American Atlas for Teens.  Can you spot the error??
When Andrew showed this to me I said we should write the publisher a letter so we did.  To the author  My name is Andrew.  I am 5 years old.  I love to read atlases.  In one of your atlases you call Alaska, Alberta.  Better call that state Alaska next time.  This was on page 23 of your N.A. Atlas for Teens.  From Andrew B
Here we are waiting for kindergarten to start.  Yep, sitting in his car seat reading more books.
So here is the letter we received back with a COLOURING BOOK!  I guess they didn't want to give him another atlas in case he discovered another error!

Have a great weekend!

K

Life happens

Hey there

Sorry for the absence the past couple of days.  Not much to say other than life happens.

This week is my Scrapbook club and we are working on a fun mini album project.  We did this one for my card maker's club too as it works great for both a scrapbooking and card project.

I made this one for Pete to capture some great memories from our trip to Hilton Head Island.

I can think of tons ideas you can use this mini photo book for!!

New Wood mount cases (video)

I know, two posts in one day

But this one made my heart flutter.  I can't wait until the new catalogue begins on May 31st.

Please contact me ASAP if you would like one.  I'll be ordering those cases soon :)

You're invited plus Summer Smooches

On this one I used a larger "scrap" of paper I found in my stash.  I know you are loving these "scrap cards".  Gotta use them up I say!  No sense keeping them around.

The sentiment comes from the Spring Catalogue set "You're Invited".

Can't get any easier than this.

K

Tri Shutter and more Summer Smooches

Are you ready for this one??

This card is actually quite easy to make/create but it just requires a bit of math and a ruler.

 Here's how
1) Start with a piece of cardstock 5 1/2 x 12
2) Score at 2, 4, 8 and 10
3) Measure up 1 1/2" from the long edge and cut between the 2" and 10" score mark.  Repeat on the opposite edge.
4) Fold along the score lines according the the photo.

Pattern paper measurements are as follows

End pieces (blue floral) - 1 3/4 x 5 1/4 (2)
Top and bottom strip -   1 1/4 x 1 3/4 (4), 1 1/4 x 3 3/4 (2)
Center strip - 1 3/4 x 2 1/4 (2)
Center piece (Tempting Turquoise) -  2 1/4 x 3 3/4

Thanks for checking in!

Cheers,
K

Bragging Mom post alert

I just had to share some cool news that Andrew brought home last week.

Andrew is one of the top 51 students in Canada in this Geography Challenge.  This is for kids from Grade 7-10 (Andrew's in grade 8).

About a month ago Andrew shared (somewhat begrudgingly) that he came first in his school in the Geography Challenge.  He participated in the provincial test and placed top 6.  Check it out here.

This all happened when my mom and dad were here so they were pretty excited and we are all pretty proud of him.  He is proud even though he doesn't show it.  He doesn't get too high or too low - no stress kind of kid.  That's our Andrew :)

Cheers,
K

Simple Perfectly Penned plus Summer Smooches paper

I'm so happy I bought this set - Perfectly Penned!!!!

Even though it doesn't look much like spring outside this paper sure is springy (is that a word?)

I added a large rhinestone to the middle of Brights button plus a few strips of Summer Smooches paper.

Another simple quick card.

K

Funny video - must share :)

We were caught up this weekend watching the Davis Cup on TV and saw these two very funny commercials that I just had to share.

I tried to embed them in this post but for some reason I can't do that but go check them out on these links.

Just quick card to start the week.  I am going to share 5 different cards this week that I made with the Summer Smooches Designer Series paper pack.  All just scraps baby, I'm using them up!

I used the new Best of Flowers and Round Array set.   Super easy and quick!

Watercolour Rainbow technique

Last month when I attended the Calgary Regionals Brian Pilling shared with us this cool Rainbow background technique.  While this can be a bit messy I was eager to try it out at home.

I created this sample to share at a recent demo meeting and with my Card maker's Club next week.  If you are interested in joining a card club I'll be having an open meeting in May for my current club members and anyone else interested in seeing what it's all about.  We learn new techniques, projects and of course create fabulous cards.

Contact me for more details.

Here was my sample.  Don't you just love the "hey there friend"!  It's from the intro kit when you sign up for My Paper Pumpkin!!!

Start with some bright markers - from left - right (Raspberry Ripple, Primrose Petals, Tangerine Tango, Summer Starfruit, Gumball Green, Temmpting Turquoise and Rich Razzleberry)

Using Watercolour paper, colour the top of the card base about 1/4 - 1/3 of the way down.

Use an aqua painter to pull the colour down the paper.  I start with the lightest colour first.

Spritz with water and allow the colour to drip down the paper.

Let dry.  My paper fell forward and landed in a puddle of ink.  No worries as I fixed it in my sample.

Tada!  Butterfly strategically placed!  Crisis averted!!

Hope you enjoyed this fun technique and photo tutorial.

Cheers,
K

My Stampin UP helpers

Last week I received several orders from Stampin Up for my clubs and luckily for me my mom and sister were here.  Sweet! - cheap, ok, honestly free labour!!!

I showed them how to sort and bag up those orders so if you received yours this week and there was a mistake.  You'll know it wasn't my fault :) Just kiddin'.

In each club order this month I made a sweet Easter treat too.

I love these elongated Easter boxes made with the Candy Wrapper die.  Soo cute!  And they fit a regular size chocolate bar.

Thanks for checking in.  I'm really trying hard to steal a few minutes here and there to create something but it has been VERY difficult.  Hopefully things will return to some sense of normalcy once the kids go back to school today!

Cheers,
K
